One of my favorite activities right now is stacking cans of cat food into a tower (hey, who needs real toys?!) I also bring them across the room one by one, setting them on a chair or handing them to my parents, then bring them back one by one and put them in their original box. I do this with books as well, bringing them back and forth to the couch across the room. It's really quite satisfying. I also like holding tennis balls in the air while taking long walks around the house, setting them down in various locations, picking them back up, then heading back to my starting point and doing it all over again. (All while saying, "palla, palla!") I also love picking up rocks, making a pile or lining them up a few inches away, then putting them back, etc. etc. You get the picture! It's really fun. I do this with paper clips, lemons, crayons, diapers, baby food jars, nail polish, leaves, you name it. I am an industrious boy.
Other than that, I'm getting REALLY into books. When I'm not forcing my parents into marathon reading sessions (reading one book after another, nonstop), you might find me on the floor flipping through them myself, pretending to read them aloud, complete with hand motions and dramatic flair. You should see me read the book about the bear hunt! It's intense. I'm actually very opinionated about which book I want to read. If my parents pick one I don't want, I'll say "no!" and push the book away, or even grab it and throw it to the ground. If my parents pick the right book, I laugh and grab it close to me. Currently I love books about numbers and letters. Whenever I want my parents to read something out loud (like the letters within a word, or a picture or number), I grab their hands or fingers and move them decisively to various parts of the page. (My mom said it reminds her of Hellen Keller.)
Before I sign off, here are my new words since my last post:
ducky
buono (good)
book
sporco (dirty)
hello (said with an accent, like "hal-o")
spotty (as in, Spot the dog)
bagno (bath)
elmo
bubble
buckle
plum
ecco! (here/there it is!)
I also go "vroom" when trucks and loud cars go by, and can impersonate a fish pretty well.
I have to say, ecco is one of my favorite words. A typical scene is as follows: I throw my socks (or ciuccio) over the edge of my crib, hold out my palm and say, "werdgo?!!?" (where did it go?!?) and then immediately call out, "ecco!" I also throw it into conversations, such as the following one I had with my mom this morning while coloring:
Me: "Yellow."
Mom: "Where's yellow?"
Me: "Ecco palla!"
(Yes, I know that doesn't make sense, but hey, I'm only 15 months old. I get distracted easily and saw a ball on the floor.)
Well, I better get going. I think there's some organizing to do!
Yours truly - Busy Baby G.
(for the record, I stuffed the tissues back in the box)
Until next time…
