- "Excuse me, people," I said, as I pushed my parents aside and closed the front door. (They had opened it to look at a big rainstorm outside.)
- "Excuse me, this is not happening," I told my mom and dad, as I tried pushing them off the couch. I have this thing where I need A LOT of personal space sometimes, like needing the whole couch to myself.
- I sometimes call out, "Caarrrrrrlaaaaa...." or "Tommmmmmy...." in the morning after I wake up, when I'm ready for my parents to come and get me from bed. I also try to chat sometimes with our housecleaner while she's working, and call out, "Oh Maaaaarrrta..." from down the hallway.
- During spring break, when all my classes were on break, I pleaded, "I want to go to school, Daddy, help me go to school."
- During one class, when another kid tried to grab the train I was playing with, I shouted, "This is Bubu's train!" (He dropped it immediately, even though he was probably thinking, "Who is Bubu?")
- When I was happily drumming and dancing to a new CD, I shouted in joy, "These are bongos! Salsa! Tango!"
- "This is a beautiful star."
- "Oh mamma...let's talk...how are you feeling?"
- "Dr. Ferrara said no more cuccio!" (Technically, he told my parents that I should stop using my pacifier when I turn 3, but my parents told me otherwise...Fortunately, they still let me use it when I sleep.)
- "Tomorrow we have junior gym, so I need to sleep all night long."
- Dad: "You don't like latte?" (milk)
Me: "No, honey, I just drink it for a few times."
- Mom: "You have strawberry on your face."
Me: (Thinking face rhymes with bass) I started singing, "I'm all about the bass, about the bass, no treble."
- Mom: "Did you do a scoreggia?" (passing gas)
Me: "No, I did a burp from my culetto." (little butt)
- When it comes to music and dancing, I sometimes make up words and a tune, and ask, "Do you know that song?" Or, while I'm dancing, I say, "How about this?"and start making up a bunch of dance moves, like 1980's head banging, crawling in a funny way, or squatting like a sumo wrestler and grabbing my diaper...)
- I've also started opening the drawers and refrigerator on my own, and can be found walking around the house with a spoon and a container of peanut butter. Once, they found me eating a stick of butter, saying, "Yum, butter!" Recently, they found me sitting on the floor in the bathroom (on a scale), eating cheese.
- Mom: "I love you so much! Do you love mommy?"
Me: "Not at all."
(Just in case you think that response is the norm, my new thing is running into the room and giving my parents big hugs around their legs, saying, "I love you so much!" or "I missed you!")
- My mom once gave me a big kiss, to which I replied, "I love me!"
- I made up my first real bedtime story: "A little boy said to a little girl, do you want to go to the beach? And they hold hands." There was more, but my mom couldn't understand the rest.
- One of my new things before going to bed is saying, "Mommy, let's talk," and then we review our whole day together, from morning to bedtime. Once, I pulled up two chairs in the kitchen, had us sit down facing each other, and asked my mom, "How are you feeling?"
- Once, when I was trying to walk away at the park, my mom said to me it was her job to keep me safe. Ever since then, I've said things like, "It's my job!" when my parents tell me not to open the refrigerator door. Or, at dinner time, when my parents are talking together, I say, "Don't say words! It's not your job." Or, when I try to push them off the couch, I say, "It's my job."
- I'm all into trying to reach objects by myself now. Like recently when I brought a chair into the kitchen, climbed onto the counter, opened the cabinet door, and tried standing up while reaching for a a bag of breadcrumbs on the top shelf, calling to my shocked mom, "I want it!"
- Along the same lines of climbing to new heights...I once lifted my tractor on top of the table in the backyard (don't ask how, it's actually pretty heavy), then climbed ON the tractor, and started riding it forward and backward. My mom, who had been secretly observing me, quickly put an end to my fun and mentioned something about "cracking my head open on the concrete." I now love that phrase, and say it often.
- In other news, my mom is in 7th heaven the past few weeks because Mr. Independent-I-Need-Space (that's me) started getting cuddly and affectionate at bedtime as I drift off to sleep, wanting to be in her lap on the rocking chair or holding her hand from my bed. After two years, she's finally getting her snuggly-baby-fix! :) A few nights ago, I even - gasp! - cuddled and fell asleep in my parents' bed for THE FIRST TIME, after I came out of my room at 4am, wanting to go play. (Normally, I only go on their bed to jump around and around, even if it's super early in the morning and they're trying desperately to get a little more sleep...)
Cross fingers that my somewhat-cuddly phase continues!

With love,
Baby G.
