A funny kid

Apparently, I say and do a lot of things that make my parents laugh.

(This is my new, fake smile.)

Here's a sampling from the past few months.

- Ever since my parents told me it was my doctor who said, "No more ciuccio," I've been using the same tactic on them. For example, upon being told it was time to change my clothes, I yelled, "Dr. Ferrara said to keep my shirt on!" I've also said, "The doctor says no more washing my face!" and "The doctor said to give me a chocolate cookie!" And once when daddy tried to brush my teeth, I shouted, "The policeman says he wants you to stop fighting with me!"

- My parents swear I'm 2 years old going on 15.  Here's a frequent response of mine:
Mom:  Where is the red paint brush?
Me:  I don't know, and I don't care.
(I've also been telling teachers and friends I'll be turning 10 years old on December 19th.)

- My mom often asks me what I did at school that day.  Recently, I replied, "Bruce was asking me what I was eating. So, I said, well Bruce, I'm eating chips."  I couldn't understand why she thought that was so funny.  Another time, I answered, "I took the bus to SolarCity to visit daddy. He was on the phone and charging a message to Sofia."  And sometimes, I pretend to be at school, like when my mom found me playing with tools and nails on the carpet. "I'm working on a school project," I informed her.

- A few months ago I asked,"Can we take a break together, mommy and daddy?"  Then I pulled them to the floor, organized a picnic on the pillow between us, and served them "hamburger, ice cream, and spaghetti."

- I'm not sure if I told you, but I'm obsessed with trying to watch videos on my mom's phone. I've even figured out how to undo airplane mode, and find youtube videos of tow trucks and monster trucks all on my own, to my parents' dismay. Anyways, because of this, she usually hides the phone from me. The other night, she was trying to put me to sleep. The light was off in my room, and she was holding my hand and sitting next to me on the floor. At one point, she pretended to be asleep for a few minutes, with her eyes closed. She thought I had fallen asleep because I was so quiet, so imagine her surprise when she heard me quietly announce in the dark, "Here, Carla, here's your pink phone." Yep, just call me Houdini. I managed to find and take the phone from her pocket without her noticing.

- Lately, I've been having fun putting coins in my piggy bank. The other day, I asked my mom for a quarter, and she replied, "Well, I'll give you a penny, because a quarter is real money that I can use to buy groceries with." I shouted in reply, "HEY! I need real money to buy a big red car!"

- Speaking of big red cars, I recently informed my parents that, "When I grow up, I want to drive a big red Ferrari. And mommy and daddy will say, that's amazing!"  Then the other day, they were talking about how the super moon/solar eclipse won't happen again until 2033.  My mom wondered out loud what I was going to be like in 18 years, and I replied, "I'm going to be driving a Ferrari."  I've also decided to be a race car driver for Halloween, instead of a ghost.

- I'm big on imagination these days, and have started calling my mom by different names. Often, I wake up from my naps calling out, "Izzy...oh Izzy....come here..." or "Miss Jessica..." or "Marcia...." My name changes too, yesterday it was Jake.

- I also love telling stories or listening to my parents make up stories.  I make very specific requests that always involve vehicles, such as "Let's tell a story about a snake, a ball, and a truck that doesn't work anymore because it has a flat tire." Most of the time, though, I want a long, involved story about "a truck stuck in the mud that gets rescued by a tow truck." (This particular theme is an obsession of mine.) I also like stories about car carriers and going to the mechanic.

- Recently, my mom made a big mistake. She brought me to the store for the sole purpose of buying me a new toy, since I've been such a good boy. Since then, though, I've been asking for presents all the time, and pretending it's my birthday. I even made my parents throw a (fake) birthday party for me with muffins, a candle, and all of us singing happy birthday. My mom finally figured out a way to keep me happy - we wrap my (existing) toys in paper, and pretend they're new birthday presents. It actually works!

- And last but not least...Given how fast I'm growing up, I'm learning a lot every day and surprise my parents with new skills all the time.  In response, they often ask me where I learned them.  He doesn't know this yet, but my answer is frequently "Nonno Giovanni" (even though he lives in Italy!)  For example, the other day, I started skipping joyously and enthusiastically down the street.  My parents were shocked that I knew how to do this, and asked, "Where did you learn how to skip?"  I turned around with a huge smile and called out, "Nonno Giovanni!"  I answered the same way recently when they asked me where I learned to pick my nose. (Sorry Nonno G!)

Next time around, I'll give you an update on how school is going, and tell you about my newest activities, like my new hiking group. It's so fun!

Stay tuned.  :)

Yours truly,
Baby G.
