Baby G: 3.0

Well hello everyone! Happy 2016!

Sorry I haven't been writing lately. As you know, I'm very sensitive to changes in my schedule, and it has a huge affect on my ability to sleep. Well, my system ended up getting very messed up over the holidays while my classes were on break, and I haven't recovered yet. Over the past several weeks, I've started falling asleep later and later at night, and waking up earlier and earlier (5 a.m. some days), and I also stopped napping a few months ago. Needless to say, I'm running a huge sleep deficit (and a mild cold that has been dragging on for weeks), and I've even started having night terrors again which I haven't had in over a year. All of this, and I didn't even leave town for a day! So....bear with me...we are all exhausted over here, trying to get me back to normal.

That said...MANY exciting things have been happening over here since October, including Halloween, my 3rd birthday, Christmas, and Zia Letizia's visit! And I haven't forgotten that I promised to post pictures from my hiking group.

For now, though, I'll do a quick post about my 3-year old doctor's visit (pictures below) and some milestones. I know Nonno Giovanni enjoys seeing my latest statistics, and it's been a year since my last official measurements! Here they are:

Height = 40 inches = 1.016 m = 93%
Weight = 35 lb 9.6 oz = 16.148 = 83%

I continue to be long and lean, but my weight has definitely been catching up. My parents could tell I was getting heavier and heavier to hold! On a side note, I was so mellow, calm, and quiet during my appointment. (I'm not usually "mellow, calm, and quiet" at all!) You can tell I've been under the weather lately.

As to milestones, a big one that happened awhile ago is that I stopped using my ciuccio (pacifier). For months, my parents had been telling me that on my 3rd birthday, the ciuccio fairy was going to come and gather my all my ciuccios, give them to new babies being born, and in exchange, leave gifts for me. Secretly, though, they were nervous about the fairy taking my ciuccios, because they were afraid I wouldn't sleep through the night again. (Up until that point, I couldn't fall asleep or stay asleep without one.) Well, surprise, surprise! A few nights before I turned 3, I looked up at my parents at bedtime and informed them, "I don't need my ciuccio anymore." And that was that! I didn't ask for any presents, or mention the ciuccio fairy, or have trouble falling asleep, or anything! And I never asked for my ciuccio since. Can you believe it? I'm becoming such a big boy.

Another milestone is that I've started potty training. My mom has been trying for a long time, but I was just not interested at all. (She even tried to bribe me with chocolates.) They say children are ready when they start minding being wet and dirty, but I never minded it! I could play for hours with a wet or poopy diaper if she let me. Anyways, so the morning after my 3rd birthday, I woke up and said, "I need to go pee-pee and poo in the potty." And I did! My parents couldn't believe it. Since then, I've transitioned from using my little training potty to using the big toilet (pee-pee only, I'm still working on getting the hang of #2.) And I also practice wearing real underwear sometimes! It's going to take time before I'm totally out of diapers and pull-ups, especially during the night, but I'm working on it. :)

Other than that, I am still really into drawing, dancing, singing, cars, and talking a lot. These days you can also find me spontaneously inventing words and definitions, such as, "Spork means walking slowly with cake in your left hand." or "A flongsider is something that goes up and down the outer surface of a firetruck."  As for music, I've been learning all about Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson lately and have been watching their videos online. What I don't understand, though, is why Michael Jackson turned into a werewolf and a zombie in the Thriller video. I keep asking my mom but she doesn't seem to know the answer.

I'll try to write again soon.
Until next time...

Yours truly, Baby G.
